Alone and unhurt
by Benji
I live in a shell, an impermeable border,
far beyond the dangers of harmful hands,
yet a great distance from the warmth of her touch.
There is a sense of coldness which surrounds me,
and I feel alone, so alone.
When the storm strikes
I keep safe and sound -
I remain dry with my clothes intact
while the others become drenched
yet don't seem to notice as they dance
hand in hand along the coastline.
Indeed, others in their half broken shells, do get hurt.
But they get to see and feel and hear what I cannot.
I persist to live in a shell,
and essentially my heart will remain undamaged,
but ultimately I will continue to be alone, so alone.
